First Person Summer Series Features Dr. Bob Long

August 19, 2011
The Memorial Mission Statement describes the Memorial as a place that “. . . should evoke feelings of compassion and hope, and inspire visitors to live their lives more meaningfully.”
Join us this summer for a First Person: Stories of Hope program and hear from people whose stories not only meet that mission, but also allow us to experience history – and the Oklahoma Standard – from those who lived it. The First Person Summer Series, included free with Museum admission, is offered in the Museum’s Center for Education & Outreach on Fridays at 1:30 p.m. from June 3 to August 26.
Dr. Bob Long, Senior Pastor, St. Luke's United Methodist Church
1:30pm, Friday, August 19
Dr. Bob Long is in his twentieth year as pastor of St. Luke’s United Methodist Church, located just a few blocks north of the site of the Murrah Building bombing. He led St. Luke’s significant response to the bombing, which included providing food and shelter for first responders as well as assistance in a variety of other areas.
Prior to coming to St. Luke’s, Dr. Long was appointed to start Mission Bend, a new church in southwest Houston, and was pastor of Bear Creek United Methodist Church in Houston. He has served in a variety of leadership roles in the Oklahoma United Methodist Conference and in Oklahoma City. Married, with two children and four grandchildren, Dr. Long is a private pilot who has built, flown and crashed his own airplane.
