Preserving History...Museum Artifacts Tell a Story

September 26, 2011
Melted rubber tire fragments of the truck bomb were collected by FBI agents in the parking lot across the street from the Murrah Building after the bombing. Before collecting the evidence they assigned reference numbers to each of damaged parked cars. Fragments of the truck bomb removed from the parked cars were then placed in clean metal cans with information such as the assigned car number, the VIN number, the license tag number, date collected and agent collecting. This evidence was then sent to the FBI lab in Quantico, Virginia, for analysis. The Memorial Archives and Special Collections now preserves the remainder of the thousands of rental truck fragments.
