Plan for Traffic Sunday Morning

April 27, 2012

With so much progress being made in downtown Oklahoma City, please plan to take extra time as you make your way to the start line of the Oklahoma City Memorial Marathon. Between the changes to the entrance and exit ramps of the new I-40 and Project 180, we have now been told of a detour at Western Avenue. Please see the map below. If you are planning to exit I-40 or I-235, please allow for traffic back-up on the exit ramps. It happens every year. We have a small window of time when every runner is making their way downtown and traffic comes to a stop.

As you may know, the NBA Finals Game #1 (OKC Thunder vs. Dallas Mavericks) is set for 8:30pm on Saturday night at the Chesapeake Arena (south of the Cox Convention Center). Beginning at 8:00am on Saturday, SW 2nd Street and Reno Avenue will be closed for the entire day to accommodate Media Trucks for the Thunder-Mavericks game. Don't expect to pull up and park and run in the Cox Center off of Reno as you have been able to do in the past, because Thunder Alley will be setting up and there will be no car access. You will still be able to access those doors by foot, but no parking or cars will be allowed on Reno Avenue all day Saturday. The Cox Center will not allow public parking after 3:00 p.m. and only season ticket holders will be allowed underneath the Cox at that time.

Why We Do This

The Marathon will still start at 6:30 and we want you to be there!

Thanks for making sure the roadblocks don't detour you from participating Sunday morning! We look forward to seeing you at the start line!
