Today, We Commemorate the Anniversary of September 11, 2001

Eleven years ago today, almost 3,000 men, women, and children were killed in the 9/11 attacks. Our thoughts are with the families, survivors and rescue workers in New York, Pennsylvania and Washington, D.C., and around the country as we mark this anniversary. Chief Petty Officer Select trainees from Tinker Air Force Base held a Remembrance Ceremony on the Outdoor Symbolic Memorial this morning to commemorate those who were lost on both September 11, and April 19.

It was just six months after the Memorial Museum opened in Oklahoma City, that the world changed on September 11, 2001. We were confronted again with terrorists at our doorstep and it was up to us as Americans to decide how to respond. Seven Oklahomans lost their lives that day, Brian Moss, Sunny Wells, Wayne Terrial Davis, Jay Shah, David Harlow Rice, David Shelby Berry, and Major Ron Milam. Nine rescue workers with the NYC USAR team who helped in the Oklahoma City aftermath of April 19, 1995, were killed on 9/11. Just as in Oklahoma City, the nation responded with bravery, and unity.

We have been proud to work with 9/11 Memorial officials since they began building the Memorial in New York City. Like us, they share in our mission to rid the world of violence.
