USS Calvert Service Held at Memorial

October 10, 2008
The USS Calvert was a U.S. Navy attack transport commissioned in 1944 that served in WWII, Korea and Vietnam.
Annually, crew members and their families gather in a city within the United States to reunite fellow sailors who served during WWII and to memorialize those who have died during the year. In 2008, the Oklahoma City National Memorial was chosen as the site for their memorial service.
After a salute to the flag, and a short prayer, names of the deceased crew members are read and a small American flag is displayed. With this salute, this group from the greatest generation pauses to look back and then moves forward with their lives not unlike those changed forever in the April 19, 1995 bombing.
