Memorial Museum Closed Due to Water Leak
January 21, 2009
A water pipe feeding into an air handler burst this morning at the Oklahoma City National Memorial Museum. The air handler is located on the roof directly above the Memorial Museum in the historic Journal Record Building.
Water poured into the Memorial Museum, flooding several areas. The Memorial has implemented its Critical Incident Management Plan and is working with Blackmon Mooring Steamatic Catastrophe, Inc. on assessing the damage.
As the official repository for items relating to the April 19, 1995, Oklahoma City bombing, the Memorial houses almost one million artifacts, primary documents, images, letters, artwork and more related to the bombing, investigations and trials.
“We are working around the clock to clean and repair the Museum, and are very hopeful to be back up and running within a week,” said Kari Watkins, Oklahoma City National Memorial & Museum Executive Director. “We are taking all the precautions we can so that we do not lose any of the valuable artifacts that tell the story of hope and resilience this community has set as the standard of response to terrorism around the world.”
