Mechanical Failure Causes Museum to Close - Day Three

January 18, 2009
Harrison Orr continued repair work on the HVAC unit today that malfunctioned on Friday and started the water leak that later closed the Memorial Museum. Heavy water damage was sustained in parts of the Museum. Blackmon Mooring is handling the water removal and climate restoration. Contractors and exhibit fabricators will join Memorial and Museum staff in putting the Museum back together. “We hope that after a full day of assessment on Monday, we will have a better educated guess of when we can target reopening,” said Kari Watkins, Executive Director of the Oklahoma City National Memorial & Museum. “Everyone is working very hard to ensure the absolute best repair and restoration is to the standard in which this Museum was built.” Memorial officials are still reviewing what caused the mechanical failure.
