Mechanical Failure Causes Museum to Close - Day Thirteen

January 28, 2009
Repairs inside the Memorial Museum continue in preparation for the Museum’s reopening. The Museum sustained substantial water damage in a January 16 flood caused by a mechanical malfunction in an air handler. The Museum will reopen to the public Wednesday, February 4, with a reopening celebration scheduled for Saturday, February 7.
The Memorial Store is open for visitors to the site while repairs are made inside the Museum. Memorial Store hours are 9 a.m.-5 p.m., Monday – Saturday and 1-5 p.m. Sunday.
Because the Memorial and Museum is a private, non-profit, funds from admission to the Memorial Museum are critical to the operation and maintenance of both the Museum and the Outdoor site. The Memorial does not receive any annual funding from federal, state or local governments. All funds to operate and maintain the Memorial are raised through Museum admission, Memorial Store sales, grants from corporations and foundations, individual donations, the Memorial Marathon and earnings from the Memorial's endowment.
