Reflecting Pool Drained for Maintenance

February 27, 2009

Rick Savory and Steve Christensen with Immaculate Masonry Repair are in the process of resealing seams in the granite bottom of the Oklahoma City National Memorial's Reflecting Pool. The Reflecting Pool was drained this week for annual maintenance and repair. Work on the pool will take place over the next few days, and the pool should reopen by March 4, 2009.

The pool occupies what was once N.W. Fifth Street. A shallow depth of gently flowing water helps soothe wounds, with calming sounds providing a peaceful setting for quiet thoughts. The placid surface shows the reflection of someone changed forever by their visit to the Memorial.

Memorial maintenance staff switched off the large pumps that feed a constant flow of water into the pool to drain it for repair. In addition to the maintenance, the pool will be pressure washed to restore its luster.
