Memorial to be Depicted on Special Oklahoma Quarter

April 02, 2009
Governor Brad Henry today selected the Oklahoma City National Memorial to be depicted on a special Oklahoma quarter coined by the U.S. Mint. The new coin is part of an upcoming program in which the Mint will commemorate a national site from each of the 50 states, District of Columbia and U.S. territories.
Gov. Henry said Oklahoma boasts many amazing landmarks and sites that would be appropriate for commemoration on the slated quarter, but that he felt the Oklahoma City National Memorial ultimately was the best choice.
“The Oklahoma City National Memorial is a powerful and resonant testament to the character of our great state and its people,” the Governor said. “It resulted from one of the greatest tragedies our nation has faced, but one that also demonstrated the strength, courage, compassion and resilience of Americans – and particularly Oklahomans. It reflects the singular character of all our people, and so I think it is fitting to grace the special commemorative quarter being planned by the U.S. Mint.”
