Renowned Child Psychologist Gives Educators Tools for Working With Kids in Crisis

April 16, 2009
The impact of trauma on children and learning, factors that increase/decrease risk and practical ideas for working with children in trauma and crisis were topics shared with 125 educators and counselors who attended a workshop at the Oklahoma City National Memorial & Museum with Dr. Robin Gurwitch. Dealing with Students in Crisis: Identification, Strategies & Support provided participants the opportunity to learn about the Memorial’s educational programs, which focus on teaching students about the impact of violence, the senselessness of using violence to solve problems, and the importance of personal responsibility, and how those programs can benefit students in crisis. Dr. Gurwitch, who worked extensively with children and families following the bombing in Oklahoma City, is an internationally recognized expert on the impact of trauma and disaster on children.
