Bikers Hold Benefit Run for Memorial

April 18, 2009

Nearly 200 motorcycle enthusiasts gathered at the Hogwash Cafe in Oklahoma City to kick off the 2nd annual Oklahoma City National Memorial Benefit Run on Saturday.

Family Members Doris Jones, her husband and son participated in the run, which supports the mission and programs of the Memorial and Museum. Riders stopped at the Memorial to lay a wreath in honor of those who were killed, and chose to lay it on the chair of Carrie Lenz, Jones' daughter who was killed in the April 19, 1995, bombing of the Alfred P. Murrah Federal Building in Oklahoma City.

Members of the Wind & Fire Motorcycle Club, many of whom as firefighters worked the bombing, were also out in force to participate in the run.

The Oklahoma City National Memorial & Museum does not receive any annual operating funds from the federal, state or local government. Museum admissions, store sales, the OKC Memorial Marathon, earnings from an endowment and private fundraising allow the Memorial and Museum to be self-sustaining.
