Runner Breaks Guinness World Record in Preparation for Memorial Marathon

April 23, 2009
This year, Brendan Brustad has one-upped himself. The senior airman stationed at Altus AFB has broken the Guinness World Record for number of miles run on a treadmill in a week. The previous record was 455.19 miles, Brendan ran 461.43 miles. Brustad tackled this record because one week holds 168 hours. He started Saturday, April 18, and finished Friday April 24. Brustad will be at the start line Sunday morning to begin his third Oklahoma City Memorial Marathon.
Last year, Oklahoma City Memorial Marathon runner Brustad tacked on a few additional miles to his marathon run — 141.8 to be exact. Brustad ran from Altus Air Force Base to Oklahoma City and then ran the Memorial Marathon. He wanted to run one mile for each of the 168 people killed in the April 19, 1995, bombing of the Alfred P. Murrah Federal Building in Oklahoma City.
