Devon Energy Provides Funding for Annual Visit for Local Elementary Students

May 19, 2009

Mark Twain Elementary School 5th graders had the opportunity to tour the Oklahoma City National Memorial & Museum today. The students learned about the symbolism of the Outdoor Symbolic Memorial with a National Park Service Ranger, experienced the Memorial Museum and heard bombing survivor Amy Petty tell her personal story in a special First Person: Stories of Hope presentation. Through Devon Energy’s annual Partners in Hope gift to the Memorial, students from Mark Twain Elementary are able to learn valuable lessons of resilience, respect and responsibility.

Many of the Memorial's major donors include visits for their "adopted" schools in their annual gift to the privately run Memorial and Museum. The Memorial does not receive any annual operating funds from the federal, state or local government. Instead, the Memorial relies on Museum admissions, store sales, the Oklahoma City Memorial Marathon, earnings from an endowment and private fundraising to be self-sustaining.
