First Person: Stories of Hope

June 05, 2009
Robert Dennis, United States District Court Clerk for the Western District of Oklahoma, had served in the courtroom of U. S. Magistrate District Judge Ron Howland many times prior to April 19, 1995. Dennis had just finished a meeting with GSA officials on the first floor of the Alfred P. Murrah Federal Building when the bomb exploded. Judge Howland, now retired, conducted initial proceedings involving the bombing, including McVeigh’s arraignment at Tinker Air Force Base and preliminary hearings, as well as issued complaints and search warrants. Dennis continued to serve as Court Clerk for many of these proceedings.
First Person: Stories of Hope is designed to give Museum visitors an
opportunity to hear from family members, survivors and rescue workers the
remarkable stories of their experiences from April 19, 1995, to the present, and to
experience first hand how tragedy was transformed into hope. It is offered in the Museum on Fridays at 1:30 p.m. from June 5th to August 28th, or for groups by appointment. Click the following link for the First Person summer schedule, 2009.
