Mission Group Lends a Hand at Memorial

June 11, 2009

Seven members of the Middle School Youth at the First United Methodist Church of Hutchinson, Kansas, visited the Memorial and Museum while in Oklahoma City on a mission trip. Throughout the week the youth group has served  at the United Way of Oklahoma City, the City Rescue Mission, the Christmas Connection and the Memorial.

The group helped the Memorial by cleaning out the drainage area around the Memorial’s 9:01 gate. They removed the stones that supply drainage to the area and removed debris and dirt that had accumulated. After the group finished, they toured the Memorial and Museum.

“I thought it was important for the kids to see (the Memorial). We chose to help because it was important to us to be part of this place in some way,” said Anna Border, group leader.

The Oklahoma City National Memorial & Museum is a private non-profit organization, and does not receive any annual operating funds from the federal, state or local government. Museum admissions, store sales, the Oklahoma City Memorial Marathon, earnings from an endowment and private fundraising allow the Memorial and Museum to be self-sustaining.
