U.S. Air Force Sergeant Chooses Outdoor Symbolic Memorial as Site of Re-enlistment

June 20, 2009
At 9:03am, June 19, 2009, Technical Sergeant Ray Stetler re-enlisted for five more years in the United States Air Force. Federal law states that everyone who enlists or re-enlists in the Armed Forces must take the U.S. Military Oath of Enlistment. This ceremony requires a commissioned officer and the person to raise their right hand and repeat the oath.
When asked why he chose the Oklahoma City National Memorial for this ceremony, Stetler stated that the incident on April 19, 1995, motivated him to join the military for reasons stated in the U.S. Military Oath of Enlistment, "…to support and defend the Constitution of the United States against all enemies, foreign and domestic."
Twelve year Air Force veteren Stetler will be soon be departing Oklahoma for service in South Korea.
