Despite Governor’s Efforts, The Memorial Won’t Appear on New State Quarter

September 10, 2009

The Memorial had been selected by Oklahoma Governor Brad Henry to be on a new set of state quarters to be produced by the United States Mint. Wednesday, the Mint released their list of locations to be on the quarters and the Memorial had been removed from the list and replaced with another National Park Service site located in Oklahoma. While the National Memorial is an affiliate of the NPS, we are not owned or operated by the National Park Service and this is why the Survivor Tree could not be on the back of the quarters set to be released in 2011. The attached letter was our response to the Director of the U.S. Mint when we learned earlier this summer of their decision.
