September 11th - A Shared Experience

September 10, 2009

The images of terror we felt eight years ago today will forever be etched into our memory. That morning, just as on April 19, 1995, Americans came together, no matter their background, race, or geographic location. We all joined together to fight the enemy. Today, may we pause to remember those who were killed, those who survived and those changed forever in New York City, the Pentagon and in Shanksville. There were local Oklahomans killed and then there were the brave firefighters who were some of the first to get to Oklahoma City in 1995 to help us that were killed in the World Trade Center towers. May we never forget that horror and the good that came out of the very worst.

We have seen resilience and hope in Oklahoma City and we share that today with the people in these three cities. It has been our pleasure to work with the Memorial staff of all three locations and it has given us great pleasure to help them as so many helped us. Today, the Oklahoma City National Memorial & Museum stand as a testament to that hope and the resilience of the American spirit. We have a shared experience.
