September 25, 2009
Three Oklahoma City National Memorial & Museum staff members led sessions at the Oklahoma Museums Association Annual Fall Conference this week in Lawton, OK. Oklahoma Museums: On the Move – Join the Ride was the theme for this year’s conference, which included 17 presentations and sessions. Development Director Stacey Weddington presented Grant Writing 101, a pre-conference session that explored how to research grant opportunities, write a proposal and be a good steward of grant funds. Collections Manager Helen Stiefmiller joined Consultant Nancy Lowe-Clark for Collection Storage Mounts, a hands-on presentation/demonstration of various storage mounts for diverse museum collections, including textiles. Director of Education & Research Lynne Roller and Collections Manager Helen Stiefmiller shared Lessons Learned: Disaster Preparedness, based on the Memorial Museum’s January 2009 flood. This session included information on documentation, critical incident management plans, volunteers, media, communication, insurance and all the details involved in handling a major catastrophe.
