Oklahoma City National Memorial Represented at
Clinton Global Initiative

September 24, 2009

Memorial Trustee Mike Turpen and Executive Director Kari Watkins are in New York City this week participating in the Clinton Global Initiative. Over the past five years, the CGI has raised $48 billion to help 200 million people in 150 countries. More than 60 world leaders, business and non-profit executives gather to work on current issues and try to put the right funder with the right cause.

Today, Her Majesty Queen Rania Al Abdullah, Queen of the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan, said that extremism cannot be tolerated and events like what happened in Oklahoma City and New York City should not be repeated if we teach and educate our children about the dangers of taking extreme sides. "Collaboration and education are the keys to providing a better world for our children," Her Majesty said.

This four day conference was opened by President Obama on Tuesday and closes with President Bill Clinton and Secretary of State Hillary Clinton on Friday. President Clinton was the President during the 1995 bombing in Oklahoma City and has remained an advocate for the Memorial and Museum. He was recently added to the National Honorary Board of Trustees and his Senior Counselor Doug Band was named as a Trustee of the Memorial Foundation Board of Trustees.
