Women of the ELCA Hold Service
Under Survivor Tree Canopy

October 05, 2009
The Arkansas/Oklahoma chapter of the Women of the ELCA held their 22nd Annual Convention in Oklahoma City and chose the Oklahoma City National Memorial for their Convention’s Friday evening service.
According to Sophia Carr, chapter Co-Chair, the Memorial was chosen because it is a place of reverence, allowing for remembering, healing and inspiration for those that have not visited and a quiet, sacred ground for renewing commitment for those that have visited. The Memorial is particularly important at this time to extend thankfulness to all the individuals who became united to bring the families and communities back to wholeness after that act of violence.
Following a short ceremony and songs, Pastor Warron BigEagle, a Northern Cheyenne and part Lakota Sioux, played his native flute as members toured the Outdoor Symbolic Memorial and reflected on the moment between the Gates of Time that changed so many lives.
