TCU Honor Students Visit Memorial and Museum As Part of Cultural Memory in the United States Class

October 22, 2009

Texas Christian University honor students in Dr. Ron Pitcock’s Cultural Memory in the United States class visited the Oklahoma City National Memorial & Museum as part of their exploration of the role of rhetorical, historical, literary, and new-media expression in creating a cultural memory in the United States. Students experienced the Outdoor Symbolic Memorial and Archives before touring the Museum, followed by an afternoon of First Person programs. Family member and Memorial Trustee Donna Weaver, former KOCO news anchor Terri Watkins and Outdoor Symbolic Memorial designers Torrey and Hans Butzer shared their stories and answered questions from students. Dr. Pitcock, who also brought his class to the Memorial last fall, noted that students say their experience at the Memorial is the highlight of the class, and he considers their study of the bombing and the opportunity to visit the Memorial and interact with First Person speakers a vital component of the class.
