19th Annual Make a Difference Day

October 24, 2009
Saturday was the 19th Annual Make a Difference Day sponsored by USA WEEKEND and the Points of Light Institute. Make a Difference Day is the single largest day of community service, with over 3 million people volunteering their time on this day in 2008. Marquita Smith chose to volunteer at the Oklahoma City National Memorial & Museum on her day of service. "I wanted to do something. I heard about it on the University of Phoenix Web site and as much time as I spend doing nothing, I figured it wouldn’t hurt to do something for someone else. I’m not from Oklahoma City, I’m from Virginia. This was a chance to give back to the community. It was a chance to learn about my own history," Smith said.
If you are looking for an opportunity to give back to your community, the Memorial is always welcoming new volunteers. Please submit an online application if you are interested in joining our team of MVPs. Click here for more information on volunteering at the Memorial and Museum.
