Memorial Volunteers Honored For
Outstanding Service and Dedication

November 06, 2009

On Friday night, November 6, the Oklahoma City National Memorial & Museum honored our wonderful volunteers at the annual Memorial Volunteer Program Appreciation Banquet held at the historic Skirvin Hilton Hotel in downtown Oklahoma City. This dynamic group of Memorial Volunteers (MVPs) has donated more than 8,000 hours to the Memorial in the past year, equaling a monetary value of over $120,000. Since the beginning of the program our MVPs have given at least 65,000 hours of service, which is valued at over $1,000,000. This incredible donation has been given in the areas of visitor services, archives, administration, education and countless special events.

All MVPS were honored for hours given this past year and total hours given to the program since 2000. Special awards are given each year for those who have shown outstanding service and dedication to the Memorial. This year’s awards included a "Saved the Day" award to Gayle McKinney, the MVP who first discovered the water leak in the Museum so all volunteers and staff could immediately put into place our Critical Incident Management Plan. Other awards given to show appreciation for such outstanding work included the Emeritus Award for past service to Jane Van Burkleo, Above & Beyond Awards to Jane Thomas and Morris Blumenthal, and the June Ranney Special Service award to Jo Wolf. This year’s Outstanding MVP award was presented to Marguerite Christman. All of these MVPs have shown exceptional dedication to the Oklahoma City National Memorial & Museum.
