PROJECT180 Set to Transform 180 Acres of Downtown

January 12, 2010
Construction begins this spring on a makeover of downtown Oklahoma City. A massive renovation project of more than 180 acres in downtown Oklahoma City is slated to begin in May 2010. Today, members of the Memorial staff joined other stakeholders in hearing about the 180 degree turnaround being planned for downtown Oklahoma City.
The initiative, named PROJECT180, is a three year $140 million redesign of downtown streets, sidewalks, parks and plazas to improve the appearance and make the central core of downtown more pedestrian friendly. The reinvestment into downtown celebrates Oklahoma City’s identity and should attract economic development for decades.
The project will happen between Northwest 6th Street (the street just north of the Memorial) to Southwest 2nd Street and from Lee to E.K. Gaylord Avenues. Areas surrounding the Memorial are encompassed in this exciting revitalization of downtown. Over the next three years, all streets surrounding the Memorial will become two-way and streetscapes will be changed to have a uniform look in downtown Oklahoma City. Once the project starts in May, any traffic changes involving access or parking around the Memorial will be highlighted on our Web site.
