Memorial Pitches Tourism Business to Bus Operators

February 01, 2010
Memorial staff joined a dozen other Oklahoma tourism partners at the American Bus Association annual Marketplace recently in Washington, D.C. Hundreds of bus operators, who take dozens of groups across the country each year, attend this show to learn from attractions, State Departments of Tourism and local Convention and Visitors Bureaus before they schedule trips.
"This is an incredible opportunity to sit face-to-face with operators and explain the importance of visiting the Memorial and Museum," said Toni Clopton, Special Events Coordinator, after spending two days visiting with about 20 operators. "These operators are already booking trips to Oklahoma and the partnership with other local attractions is very important to making it a successful trip for the operator and bus travelers."
While attending the Marketplace, Memorial officials also interviewed Pete Pantuso, President and CEO of American Bus Association, on the importance of the bus business to attractions. This interview will be a part of a video produced by Memorial staff in the near future. The bus market is approximately 20 percent of total visitation at the Oklahoma City National Memorial & Museum.
