Preserving History...
New First Responder Hats on Display

March 08, 2010

Artifacts displayed in the Memorial Museum have come from a variety of sources and are vital to telling the story of the 1995 bombing of the Alfred P. Murrah Federal Building. The Archives staff is responsible for the care and preservation of all artifacts in the Memorial’s extensive collections, when they are stored in Archives as well as when they are on exhibition in the Museum, and acts in accordance with the standards of preservation accepted by the American Association of Museums, through which the Memorial Museum is accredited. Sensitive materials which are vulnerable to the effects of light must be rotated on a regular basis to ensure their long term preservation. First responder hats, displayed in Chapter 6, were recently rotated and replaced with other hats in the collection. First responders played an important role in the rescue and recovery, and many of them have chosen to share their hats, patches, lapel pins and other items with the Memorial Archives.
