First Person Programs Extend
the Learning Experience

March 24, 2010

First Person – Stories of Hope offers an opportunity for visitors to hear personal accounts from people directly impacted by the bombing. For educational groups, a First Person story can provide an invaluable extension to the classroom experience, as students can hear the story as well as ask questions related to their area of study. Dr. Randy Hemphill's Advanced Psychology students from Norman High School toured the Museum in conjunction with their study of post traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) and its effects. Psychologist Dr. Ellie Lottinville, who directed the death notification teams and other mental health initiatives in the aftermath of the bombing, shared her experience related to PTSD. "It was an incredible experience," said Dr. Hemphill, who brought students last year. Memorial Director of Safety & Security Leon Gillum addressed Air Defense Artillery Officers from Fort Sill, who spent the afternoon at the Memorial as part of their training on domestic terrorism.
