Thank You, Memorial Marathon Volunteers!

April 05, 2010
It takes 6,000 incredible volunteers a full year to plan, coordinate and carry out the Oklahoma City Memorial Marathon. In 2009, we had more volunteers than there were runners in the inaugural Memorial Marathon in 2001! From medical needs and packet pick-up to hospitality and course communications to water stops and the Health & Fitness Expo, each area of the weekend is overseen by a volunteer chairman and their corps of support volunteers. We thank you and applaud your dedication and hard work that makes this a world class Marathon!
As one runner said after last year's race, "Please tell all of your volunteers a huge Thank YOU from myself and all the runners. Everything was done right. The OKC Memorial Marathon is the perfect answer to terrorism. It celebrates life and promotes community. What a perfect answer to those who would destroy and kill rather than find a way to live in our wonderful country. It made me proud to be an athlete, proud to be an Oklahoman, and proud to be an American."
