Signing of Legislation Ensures Oklahoma Students Will Learn About the April 19th Bombing Forever

April 06, 2010

Governor Brad Henry held a ceremonial bill signing today to spotlight the approval of legislation that ensures Oklahoma public school students will learn about the 1995 bombing of the Alfred P. Murrah Federal Building in Oklahoma City.

Co-authors Representative Lee Denney and Senator Ron Justice joined the Governor, State Superintendent Sandy Garrett, Chancellor Glen Johnson and Memorial Foundation Chairman John Richels in the Museum packed with educators, students, family members, survivors, rescue workers, trustees and volunteers for the historic signing.

"In the planning of the Memorial and Museum it was often discussed that someday we would teach those who wouldn't know this story and today we are at that point," said Richels. "We are looking forward to working with the State Department of Education in providing the right elements and resources to educators in the coming weeks as they prepare to teach these lessons in the fall of 2011."

The Memorial and Museum will roll out plans for history teachers and administrators and present opportunities to get them in the Museum this summer to learn this story, see the artifacts and understand the relevance of this site.
