Mementos Left on Chairs Honor Those Who Were Killed

July 04, 2010

The Field of Empty Chairs on the Outdoor Symbolic Memorial honors those who were killed in the bombing. Family members and friends sometimes leave items on the chairs as a remembrance or to mark a special occasion or celebration. These unique and meaningful objects are photographed, collected and preserved in the Memorial Archives.

Don Burns was a Construction Analyst, Office of Southern Plains Native American Programs, for the Department of Housing and Urban Development. This office putting kit was left on his chair on December 28, 2005. Burns was a six handicap golfer and regularly shot in the seventies.
