First Person: Stories of Hope
Features Bryan Painter

Join us this summer for a First Person: Stories of Hope program. Family members, survivors, first responders, journalists, and people involved with rebuilding our city and creating the Memorial will share the remarkable stories of their experiences from April 19, 1995, to the present. Museum visitors can ask questions and learn firsthand how tragedy was transformed into hope. First Person is offered in the Museum on Fridays at 1:30 p.m. from June 4th to August 27th, or for groups by appointment. The program is included free with Museum admission.

Bryan Painter, Journalist
July 9, 1:30p.m.

Bryan Painter was sitting at his desk at The Oklahoman, the state's largest newspaper, at 9:02 a.m., April 19, 1995. He was among the newspaper's first reporters sent to the Alfred P. Murrah Federal Building, leaving the office by 9:07 a.m. with a fellow reporter. For the next three months, Painter was assigned to victims’ coverage, telling the stories of those who died, those who survived and those physically and emotionally injured by the tragedy. In addition to the bombing, Painter, an 18-year employee of The Oklahoman, has covered several other natural and manmade disasters. He has traveled from Idaho to Michigan to Washington, D.C., to Texas to Canada to speak to professional journalists as well as higher education students on the responsibilities that come with covering victims.
