Street Rod Auto Plate Prompts Return Visit
July 26, 2010
Items from the Fence are currently collected by the Memorial’s Archives staff about four times a year. Ten years ago so many items were placed on the Fence that staff collected them several times a month. Once these items are removed, some of them go into the Memorial’s permanent collections and others become part of the Memorial’s education and outreach programs, such as the Hope Trunk.
This bronze auxiliary automobile plate with the “Street Rods Unlimited” motif was left on the Fence at the Outdoor Symbolic Memorial On August 3, 1997. It was collected on November 11, 1997. Written on the back of the plate are “The Robb Family, The Lawson Family, The Curry Family, Pat & Cy, Ken & Roselanie Kelner, Bob Peters, Don & Mary Ann Fox, Jim Gracey, Santa Barbara Sheriff's Dept." Last month many of these individuals, on their way home from a street rod event, returned to visit the Memorial.
