World War II Veterans Experience the Memorial

September 10, 2010
Veterans from the 454th Bombardment Group, 15th Air Force, in Oklahoma City for their annual reunion, visited the Memorial and Museum today. They have come from across the United States – Honolulu to New Jersey – to share their experiences. The group was 5,300 strong when they served in Italy during World War II, and they have been reuniting every summer since 1985. Memorial Security Director Leon Gillum shared his role in the rescue and recovery following the bombing and answered questions from the group in a First Person presentation.
