Changes Made at the Beginning of Museum Experience

September 20, 2010

Periodically, new exhibits, videos and artifacts are added to the Memorial Museum. This allows Museum staff to rotate artifacts to archives for preservation or because new items have been donated or created as part of our ongoing effort to collect, remember, educate and remain relevant.

This week, several areas in the Museum changed. When you exit the elevator on the third floor to begin your Museum experience, you will see a new mural of downtown Oklahoma City as it looked in April 1995. Directly across from that in what is called Chapter 1, you will watch a short orientation video about the Memorial and Museum.

The Museum is told in chapters and on a timeline. After you experience the chaos and hear the survivor stories, you will watch how the media broke the news to the world. Updated flat panel monitors have been added.

It is the stories from the families of those who were killed, those who survived and those changed forever, that make this story relevant and meaningful to the 200,000 visitors who tour our Museum each year.

Come experience the Oklahoma City National Memorial Museum that in no way diminishes the tragedy, but rather, offers an inspiring contrast between the brutality of the evil and the tenderness of the response.
