OU Men's Basketball Team Tours Memorial and Museum

October 30, 2010
After reading a Sports Illustrated article about how Sam Presti had required all of the Thunder players to tour the Memorial & Museum, Coach Jeff Capel brought the University of Oklahoma men's basketball team to the Oklahoma City National Memorial & Museum on Saturday afternoon to experience the lessons learned from April 19, 1995. First touring through the Memorial Museum, the players were extremely moved by the stories of the families of those who were killed, the survivors, the heroic effort of the rescue workers, the response of a community torn by terrorism and the outreach of a nation as all eyes were on Oklahoma City in 1995. Many asked questions as to "why did he do this" and "what about the children?" Some were interested in the lesson of justice and how the perpetrators were arrested, brought to trial and convicted. But all were moved by the stories and the tour of the Outdoor Symbolic Memorial as they learned the lesson of remembrance as the Oklahoma sun began to set on the Memorial.
The Oklahoma City National Memorial & Museum is honored to have this remarkable group of young men here to experience this life changing Memorial and proudly represent this state at the University of Oklahoma.
