Little Red Doll Presented by Duchess of York

November 01, 2010
The Archives includes numerous artifacts collected from celebrity visitors to the Outdoor Symbolic Memorial and the Museum. The Duchess of York, Sarah Ferguson, visited Oklahoma City and the Memorial for a third time since the bombing on May 5, 2002, to promote her New York based children's charity, Chances for Children, and reunite with PJ Allen, whom she had supported since the bombing. The Chances for Children offices had been based on the 101st floor of Tower One at the World Trade Center in New York City, which was destroyed on September 11, 2001. Her staff had not arrived to work when the tragedy occurred that day so they were safe, but many of their friends in surrounding offices died. At the Survivor Tree, the Duchess presented this Little Red doll to the Memorial.
Written on a paper tag attached to the doll are these words: "Chances for Children, Founded by The Duchess of York in 1994, Chances for Children is a non-profit organization devoted to helping children in need. Its mission is to make a positive difference in the lives of children facing unique challenges to their health and well being. FAO Schwarz will donate a portion of the proceeds from this doll to Chances for Children, One World Trade Center, 101st Floor, New York, NY 10048, www.chancesforchildren.org"
