Preserving History...
Quilt Created to Honor Those Who Were Killed

November 08, 2010

The mementos left on the Fence by visitors from all over the world are periodically removed and cataloged for the Museum collection or are incorporated into the Memorial’s traveling educational program known as the Hope Trunk.

This beautiful 84” x 54” quilt, made in the aftermath of the bombing, has hand appliquéd leaves sewn decoratively on its face. Titled 168 Dancing in the Oklahoma Wind, it was left on the Fence while the Outdoor Symbolic Memorial was being constructed. The following message was attached:

“I was inspired to create this quilt while watching news coverage of the water bottle ceremony at the survivor tree. Like the victims they represent, no two leaves are alike – each is unique and special in its own way. I make no apologies for the large, crooked uneven stitches – I am an amateur quilter who hopes to improve. Dana L. Reed, OKC, July 1, 1997.”
