America Remembers, America Cares

November 29, 2010
One of the artifact themes that the Oklahoma City National Memorial & Museum Archives actively collects is the reactions of individuals from the country and around the world to the bombing in Oklahoma City. Some people turned to art or creative crafts such as quilting to express their emotions to the tragedy.
Hand quilted and appliquéd by Mary James, Linda MacLaughlin, Ann Hogan, Carol Smith, Kristi Perko, Sue Babich, Roberta Wells and Angela Buck, this 48” x 46” wall hanging from Chelmsford, Massachusetts, arrived at the Mayor’s Office on July 8, 1996.
"From the Seedbed of America to its Heartland. America Remembers, America Cares” is hand embroidered on the flag. Appliqued on the thread spools is the message "Oklahoma City Memorial Quilt, Those lost will remain in our hearts forever. Chelmsford, MA to Oklahoma City, OK 4/19/1995-4/19/1996. Quilt colors include purple for compassion, yellow for those missing, green for prayers, blue for the state flag, white for innocence and black for mourning."
