2011 Workshop Series for Educators Scheduled

The Memorial and Museum will present four professional development workshops for educators in 2011. Topics ranging from domestic terrorism and extremism to crisis communication and children in crisis will be explored with experts from across the United States, who will share their knowledge and experience, and interact with participants. The series, made possible through the generous support of the JPMorgan Chase Foundation, includes the following:
- Domestic Terrorism & the USA PATRIOT Act, Wednesday, January 26, Center for Education & Outreach, 4:30 to 6:00 p.m., featuring John D. Cohen, Special Advisor to the Secretary of Homeland Security, Information Sharing, Counter-Terrorism and Law Enforcement
- Crisis Communication: Covering Domestic Terrorism, Sunday, February 27, Center for Education & Outreach, 1:30 to 3:30, A discussion about the relationships between journalists and victims of domestic terrorism, featuring local journalists, and, via videoconference, a journalist covering domestic terrorism abroad
- Extremism & Domestic Terrorism: Cause & Effect, Wednesday, September 14, 4:30 to 8:00 p.m., Experts will explore the development and growth of extremism and its impact on domestic terrorism.
- Responding to Children in Crisis: Problem Solving & Anger Management Strategies, Wednesday, October 26, 4:00 to 6:30 p.m., featuring Dr. Robin Gurwitch
