Fence Collection Includes
T-shirts from Around the World

January 17, 2011
After the bombing on April 19, 1995, a chain-link fence protected the Murrah Building crime scene. Individuals from around the world who came to the site left behind personal items such as t-shirts, teddy bears, license plates, key chains and jewelry. The Fence became America’s sympathy card. On October 26, 1998, family members, survivors and rescue workers moved the more than two hundred feet of fence to its present location next to the 9:03 Gate, the healing side of the Memorial. People continue to leave mementos today.
The Fence Collection includes more than 4,000 signed t-shirts. Seventy thousand artifacts have been gathered from the Fence since the rescue and recovery operation began.
