Memorial Volunteers Honored at
Annual MVP Appreciation Banquet

January 27, 2011
The Oklahoma City National Memorial & Museum honored over 70 dedicated Memorial Volunteers with a reception and banquet held at the Center for Education & Outreach in the Memorial Museum. The banquet theme was a celebration of the 10th birthday of the Memorial Museum which opened on February 19, 2001. The keynote speakers were the builders of the Memorial Museum, who selflessly shared their time, expertise and emotional experiences to ensure that this Museum became the educational and national showpiece that we see today. Jeannine Gist, mother of Karen Gist Carr, who was killed on April 19, 1995; Major Ed Hill, Oklahoma City Police Department; Richard Williams, survivor from General Services Administration and Hardy Watkins, Memorial Project Manager, were part of a panel presentation moderated by Kari Watkins, Executive Director of the Oklahoma City National Memorial & Museum.
After dinner, each volunteer was presented with a gift and certificate honoring the hours given to the Memorial Volunteer Program. In the past 15 months, this committed group donated 12,400 hours to the Memorial, a gift valued at $211,400. This donation is crucial to the operations of the Oklahoma City National Memorial Museum.
Every year, the Memorial honors select volunteers with some special awards. Awards for 10 years of volunteer service were given to Sue Craig and Brad Robison. The Above and Beyond awards were given to Ronny Greenberg and Sheila Patterson. Gus Schmid was presented with the June Ranney Special Service Award. The Outstanding MVP for 2010 was awarded to Annetta McCoy. Each one of these recipients has given over 5 years to the Program.
