Museum Builders...
Richard Williams

February 08, 2011

It takes a thousand voices to tell a single story...
Ancient Native American proverb

Between now and Saturday, February 19th, you will hear from one of the Museum builders. Shortly after the bombing, the Memorial Task Force met to discuss what, if anything, would become of this site. In March 1996, a Memorial Mission Statement was adopted that laid out plans for the Memorial complex and an education center---which today is called the Memorial Museum. This process was like none other ever in the history of Oklahoma City. Some of the best museum experts in the country came together with the people of our community to build this special place. On Saturday, February 19th, the Museum turns 10!

Richard Williams was the assistant building manager of the Alfred P. Murrah Federal Building on April 19, 1995. He played an integral part in the Memorial process and represented the survivors on the Museum Committee. The Memorial Mission states the museum should include and record important facts and observations about the bombing and teaches visitors never to forget the event or the people it touched. Educational information should include, among other elements, personal stories about those who died and those who survived. Hear Richard recount some of his memories of the Memorial process.

Make plans to join us for the Museum Birthday Celebration on Saturday, February 19th, from 9:00a.m. - 6:00 p.m. Museum admission is free that day courtesy of Devon Energy. Enjoy cake and ice cream at noon to help us celebrate the special birthday and hear the Museum builders in a special First Person panel at 1:00 p.m. in the Museum.
