Museum Builders...
Karen Luke

February 09, 2011

It takes a thousand voices to tell a single story...
Ancient Native American proverb

Every day between February 1-19, you will meet one of the Museum builders. More than 15 years ago, people in Oklahoma City came together to build the Oklahoma City National Memorial & Museum. This was a collaborative process like none the people of this city had ever experienced. It took time, patience, the ability to listen and execute. On Saturday, February 19th, the Museum turns 10!

Karen Luke was the original vice-chair of the Memorial task force. She would later Chair the Memorial Foundation. That same Foundation owns and operates the Memorial and Museum today. Karen gave of her time to tirelessly steer the process and in doing so volunteered thousands of hours. Karen was an integral part of every major decision and helped plan the Museum in weekly meetings held to put the final touches on the content and design. Listen as Karen goes back through the process of building this meaningful Museum.

It will be a birthday party to remember. Don’t miss, Saturday February 19th, at noon as cake and ice cream is served. Then, hear the Museum Builders tell their story in a special First Person panel at 1:00 in the Museum. Admission to the Museum is free on this special day courtesy of Devon Energy.
