Preserving History...
Museum Artifacts Tell a Story

May 09, 2011

The Museum’s Gallery of Honor highlights the individuals who were killed in the bombing. Family members were asked to provide a photograph and an item from their loved one’s life to be placed in a shadow box. Each photograph and object offers a small glimpse of that person’s life, but these artifacts are vital to telling the story of the bombing.

As a Secret Service agent, Don Leonard worked on the ninth floor of the Alfred P. Murrah Federal Building. Jason, Don’s son, wrote that his father “spent thirty years of his life doing his part to keep this great country what its always been, and what it should continue to be.” Don Leonard’s shadow box contains his Secret Service badge, Oklahoma Police badge and a red heart inscribed with “Big Hearted Gentle Giant,” words often used to describe him.

These personal artifacts, along with the other Gallery of Honor artifacts, are being preserved in the Memorial Archives.

Visit the Memorial Museum and experience the story of One City, One Nation, One Resolve.
