Oklahoma City National Memorial Museum
Welcomed its Two Millionth Visitor Today

Over the past ten years, the institution has educated millions with its story of hope and renewal

June 18, 2011, Oklahoma City, OK - The Oklahoma City National Memorial & Museum is proud to announce the celebration of its two millionth visitor today. Vickie Cousatte arrived at the Museum around 1:30 this afternoon and was surprised to know that she was now a part of the Museum’s history.

“We wanted to come show the kids the Memorial and Museum and teach them our history,” said Mrs. Cousatte. “We wanted to teach them since they are learning it in schools and we wanted them to see it firsthand.”

Vickie Cousatte and her family (consisting of her sisters and her nieces and nephews) received a VIP Behind the Scenes Tour led by Executive Director Kari Watkins and members of the Memorial’s Conscience Committee, consisting of family members, survivors and rescue workers. Members of the Oklahoma City Police and Fire Departments folded the American flag that dropped from the ceiling and presented it to the winning family and then rolled out the red carpet to begin their tour. In addition, the family also received a special “thank you” package that highlights the best of the state from Oklahoma companies, including:

  • One night stay in a luxurious king suite at the Colcord Hotel in downtown Oklahoma City, including a complimentary breakfast for two
  • 4 tickets to the Oklahoma City Redhawks vs. New Orleans Zephyrs game on Father’s Day, as well as official Redhawks gear
  • Dinner for 4 at Mickey Mantle’s Steakhouse in Oklahoma City’s historic Bricktown entertainment district
  • 4 passes to the National Cowboy & Western Heritage Museum
  • 4 passes to the Oklahoma City Water Taxi through the Bricktown Canal
  • $50 gift card to Sonic
  • $50 gift card to Braum’s
  • $50 gas voucher from 7-Eleven
  • One year subscription to Oklahoma Today, the state’s premier magazine
  • A weekend stay at an Oklahoma State Park, courtesy of the Oklahoma Department of Tourism and Recreation and an assortment of other Oklahoma favorites
  • Oklahoma City Convention & Visitors Bureau prize package, including a DVD player and a cooler and other treats from OKC!
  • Official Oklahoma City Thunder gear
  • Two free entries to the 2012 Oklahoma City Memorial Marathon events
  • Keepsakes from the Memorial & Museum gift shop, including a framed and signed original photograph by Ann E. Clark

“We plan to continue working hard to ensure that when visitors walk through these doors, it is a unique and meaningful experience,” said Kari Watkins, Executive Director of the Oklahoma City National Memorial & Museum. “This symbolic celebration is to honor not only this individual, but all the visitors that have come before to learn the lessons of hope and renewal.”

The Memorial averages visitors from all 50 states each month and 92 countries last year alone.
