Survivor Tree Saplings Now Available
American Forests’ Historic Tree Program and Oklahoma City National Memorial & Museum offer offspring from symbolic tree
(Washington DC) American Forests’ Historic Tree Program and the Oklahoma City National Memorial & Museum are proud to announce Survivor Tree Saplings are now available for purchase from American Forests’ Historic Tree Program.
The Survivor Tree, a 90 year old American elm, stands as a symbol of strength in the heart of downtown Oklahoma City at the Oklahoma City National Memorial & Museum. It survived the April 19, 1995 bombing of the Alfred P. Murrah Federal Building, bearing witness to one of the worst terrorist attacks on American soil. A 4,000-pound bomb killed 168 and injured hundreds just yards from where the tree stands. Initially the elm was to have been chopped down to recover pieces of evidence that hung from its branches.
A Survivor Tree sapling was presented to the Oklahoma State Governor Brad Henry and planted by American Forests to commemorate the 12th Anniversary of the bombing. Survivor Tree saplings have been planted all across the nation by Oklahoma City residents and survivors of the bombing. Survivor Trees were presented to the First Ladies from eight states who recently visited the Oklahoma City National Memorial and Museum: Colorado, Washington, Maine, Nebraska, New Hampshire, Montana, West Virginia, and Wyoming. Over 100 Survivor Trees have been planted through the American Forests Historic Tree Program since its introduction to the collection in April and making it one of the Historic Tree Programs’ most popular trees.
Survivor Trees are $39.95 plus shipping. Each tree is 1-3ft tall and comes with a certificate of authenticity, tree shelter, planting instructions, bird net and fertilizer tablet. You can order your Survivor Tree by visiting www.historictrees.org
American Forests’ Historic Tree Program is a way to focus people’s attention on our country’s future by planting trees connected to our history. We help bring history alive by propagating and selling the offspring of trees connected to famous people, events and places.
