HOBBY LOBBY AND SANDRIDGE ENERGY DONATE CENTENNIAL CLOCK TO OKLAHOMA CITY NATIONAL MEMORIAL

OKLAHOMA CITY (Jan. 14, 2008) – In a short ceremony held earlier today, the Oklahoma Centennial, Hobby Lobby and SandRidge Energy  presented an Oklahoma Centennial Clock to the Oklahoma City National Memorial & Museum.

“We are proud to dedicate a grand Centennial Clock to the Oklahoma City National Memorial & Museum, which stands as a tribute to Oklahoma’s resiliency, strength and history,” said Oklahoma Centennial Commission Executive Director Blake Wade.

Following brief remarks and a countdown of O-K-L-A-H-O-M-A, Wade and Lee Allan Smith, chairman of Centennial projects and events, unveiled the majestic four-faced street clock with the help of Oklahoma City National Memorial Foundation Chairman Burns Hargis, Hobby Lobby Co-Owner Barbara Green, SandRidge Energy Vice President of Administration Marsha Wooden, SandRidge Energy Chief Information Officer and Senior Vice President Lon Winton and Oklahoma City National Memorial & Museum Executive Director Kari Watkins.

“Each year, thousands visit this historic site of reflection and education. This magnificent Centennial clock is a wonderful addition to the memorial and shows how precious time can be,” said Hargis.

A special edition created exclusively for the Centennial, the clock is a fully modernized version of the popular vintage street clocks that graced town squares and public areas across Oklahoma and the country during the time of statehood.  The Oklahoma City National Memorial Clock is the first to be installed at a national memorial and stands 20 feet tall.

“The generosity of Hobby Lobby and SandRidge Energy has made possible this outstanding enhancement honoring our state’s history,” said Smith.  “The Oklahoma City National Memorial’s timepiece will join the other Centennial Street Clocks around the state to serve as monuments of Oklahoma’s first one hundred years.”

The Oklahoma Centennial Street Clock program offers communities an opportunity to commemorate the state’s upcoming Centennial with a lasting monument for future generations.  Three sizes of official Centennial Street Clocks are available, offering options for a variety of communities.  The Oklahoma Centennial Commission has partnered with Oklahoma City-based Bezdek + Associates to install the clocks throughout the state.
