Reflecting Pool Undergoes Maintenance

The Reflecting Pool on the Outdoor Symbolic Memorial will be drained for routine maintenance January 28 - February 1, 2008. The routine maintenance will help this Memorial stand as it was designed for generations. We apologize for any inconvenience to visitors during this time.

Facts about the Reflecting Pool
Standing 3/4 of an inch deep, the calming water of this pool stands where 5th Street once stood, and shows the reflection of someone changed forever by their visit to the Memorial.

The pool is 318 feet long and 52 feet wide.

The water is filtered and pumped back into the reflection pool. The surface of the pool contains about 7,800 gallons of water and the pumping and filtration portion of the pool contains another 70,000 gallons for a total of 77,800 gallons of water that re-circulates approximately every 22 minutes.
